Summary:

Under Viksit Bharat @ 2047, the fishing industry in India is essential to the expansion of livelihoods. Value addition, sustainability, and the growth of the technology market are the main goals of government programs including round tables, investor meetings, and the Seafood Exporters Meet 2026. Regulations like the National Traceability Framework 2025, MMPA compliance TEDs, and the approval of 211 export establishments in the EU, UK, China, Russia, and Brazil are among the measures. These enhanced the competitiveness of standards. As a result, with 19.32 lakh MT, exports in 2025–2026 reached Rs. 72,325.82 crore (US$7.68 billion). At Rs. 47,973.13 crore, shrimp dominated earnings. The US continued to be the world's largest importer, but growth in China, the EU, and Southeast Asia countered the decline brought on by tariffs. 64% of exports were handled by ports like Vizag, JNPT, Kochi, Kolkata, and Chennai.
