On the Surat-Bharuch section of NH-48 in Gujarat, the National Highways Authority of India implemented the country's first stop-free tolling system utilizing Multi-Lane Free Flow (MLFF) technology. It eliminates the need for cars to stop at the Chorayasi toll plaza, allowing for smooth movement. Tolls are automatically deducted while cars travel at regular speeds thanks to Automatic Number Plate Recognition and FASTag. The system ensures smooth traffic flow while lowering emissions, fuel consumption, travel time, and congestion. About 41,500 cars used it on its first day. MLFF is anticipated to grow nationally and save fuel expenses by about Rs. 1,500 crore per year as part of a larger modernization drive.
