With the proposed India Semiconductor Mission (ISM) 2.0, which would provide Rs. 1.25 lakh crore and is awaiting Cabinet clearance, India has advanced its semiconductor goals. By investing in chip design, production, equipment, materials, indigenous intellectual property, and robust supply chains, the mission seeks to fortify the semiconductor ecosystem, building on ISM 1.0. To increase India's competitiveness internationally, it also prioritises developing talent and luring business partners. Twelve manufacturing projects totalling Rs. 1.64 lakh crore, comprising fabrication and packaging units, were sanctioned by the government under the first phase. Furthermore, 24 design initiatives, 105 businesses utilising cutting-edge chip design tools, and 23 tapeouts show notable advancements in the development of a robust domestic semiconductor manufacturing ecosystem in India.
