India was a marginal net importer with imports of 0.68 million tonnes and exports of 0.47 million tonnes. Both imports and exports increased significantly from April 2025. In 2025–2026, capacity was close to 220 MTPA; by 2030, it is expected to reach 300 MTPA. Prices are rising, major companies are increasing capacity, and green steel efforts are spreading.
